 Introduction

 Taupo is a very special and beautiful place within a marvellous clean, green country.  We are very aware of the fragile nature of our special environment and so take various steps to run a sustainable business.  We hope that you would like to join us in the balancing act required to minimise our impact while still providing a quality and luxury experience for our guests.

Rangimarie is committed to taking all practical steps to produce a quality experience for guests while minimizing our impact on the local and global environment.

 Sustainable Practices 

 As a responsible operator we have concerns over the impact of our business on the environment and are trying to run in as sustainable a manner as possible without compromising the quality experienced by our guests.

To achieve this we have taken the following practical steps;

Ø      Installed solar water heating for the swimming pool and covered it and the spa with a thermal blanket.

Ø      Installed solar panels to heat our water.

Ø      Reduced replacement of linen and towels.

Ø      Made use of longlife bulbs wherever possible without reducing light quality.

We carry out thorough a recycling process ie.

§         Rigorous rubbish sorting to minimise waste for landfill

§         Plastics, paper, cardboard, glass and cans in council “green bin”

§         Biodegradeables shared between;

§         Worm farm

§         Composting

§         Chickens

To minimize our water use and wastage we do the following;

Ø      Collect rainwater and use if for watering plants.

Ø      Collect some greywater and water plants with it.

Ø      Cover pools with thermal blankets to prevent water loss through evaporation.

To protect the environment from pollution and chemicals and reduce overall environmental impact;

Ø      We use only natural detergents and cleaning products which are “Green” certified.

Ø      Natural insecticides eg. Pyrethrum are used.

Ø      Our soaps, shampoos etc obtained from local suppliers to minimise transport costs and made from locally grown natural materials.

Ø      We try to make use of locally grown fruit and veges where possible to minimise transport.
